This festival brings the canals of Amsterdam to life with stunning light installations that you can admire from the water. Want to get up close to these artworks? Then our open boat tour during the Amsterdam Light Festival is the perfect choice. With a small open boat that accommodates up to 25 people, you’ll sail close to the artworks and enjoy a unique and personal experience on the water. The skipper is your guide and will share fascinating stories about the artworks and their creators along the way.
What can you expect from our Amsterdam Light Festival open boat tour?
Imagine: you’re gliding through Amsterdam’s picturesque canals in a small open boat as the evening sets in. Our open boat tour offers exactly this experience. The city transforms into a magical light show, with quieter streets and beautifully illuminated bridges creating a unique atmosphere. During the tour, you’ll not only enjoy the impressive artworks but also hear stories from the skipper, who will provide insights about the festival and the city. And if the evening gets chilly, we have warm blankets on board, so you can stay cozy while taking in the beautiful surroundings.
When booking your tickets for the Amsterdam Light Festival, you can easily add extras, such as a snack box. The snack box includes chips, popcorn, stroopwafels, nuts, and a water or soft drink of your choice. Prefer to choose your snacks yourself? You can purchase a variety of snacks and drinks at our counter before your cruise.
Artworks during the 13th edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival
The 13th edition of the festival in 2024 revolves around the theme of ‘Rituals.’ Rituals are closely connected with light, from candles during holidays to fireworks at New Year’s. International artists have drawn inspiration from this symbolism to create artworks that make you reflect on traditions. You’ll have the chance to admire more than twenty of these light artworks up close from the comfort of our intimate boat.
What happens in case of bad weather?
In the event of extreme weather, the open boat tour will unfortunately not go ahead. If this happens, we will contact you to reschedule your booking or offer you the option to switch your ticket to a covered boat tour.
Practical information about the open boat tour
Our open boat operates daily during the festival, from November 28, 2024, to January 19, 2025. Departures are available between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM from the Blue Boat dock at Stadhouderskade 501, opposite the Hard Rock Café. In case of bad weather, you can exchange your ticket for a heated, covered boat tour. The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes.
Wheelchair accessibility
Unfortunately, our open boat is not wheelchair accessible. However, if you would still like to enjoy the festival, we recommend joining our covered and heated boat tour, which is wheelchair friendly.
